Our Plan

Water TankThe Caledonia Community Garden is using 20 raised bed garden boxes to plant a majority of our crops this year.  These boxes are 8' X 4' in size, and use the Square Foot Gardening Technique. Raised beds yield up to four times more than the same amount of space planted in rows. That’s due not only to their loose, fertile soil but also to efficient spacing—by using less space for paths, you have more room to grow plants.

In addition to the raised bed boxes, we also use traditional gardening methods in approximately 1/3 acre of the adjoining field.  This area is used for plants that require more space to grow, such as zucchini, cucumbers, flowers and melons.

The garden is grateful again this year for the donation of a large agricultural water tank, which is filled by the Caledonia Fire Department and available for use in caring for all of the produce.  Hoses are located near the tank to ensure the garden receives all necessary watering.

Through generous donations from the Caledonia United Methodist Church, the garden is able to provide a storage shed and all of the tools that are necessary to maintain a garden of this size.
